A special program has been set up for the accompanying participants of WOODRISE. It will help you to discover the beautiful region of Aquitaine: the City of Wine in Bordeaux, Saint-Emilion City and/or the Bassin of Arcachon, on September 13 to 15, 2017. You will be able to add one or more of these visits to your package when you register.

The Cité du Vin, a World of Cultures

Discover the cultures and civilizations of wine with this fun, spectacular, sensory, multimedia experience

The exhibition covers 3,000 m2, includes 20 theme spaces and proposes a unique experience through time and space to discover wine in all its diversity. The contents are accessible with the visit companion given to each visitor.

  • Departure at 9:45 AM by tramway at the Quinconces stop.
  • Arrival at 10 AM at the Cité du Vin.
  • 10 AM – Noon, multimedia experience and tasting of one glass of wine.
  • Departure at 12:45 PM by tramway to the Quinconces stop.

Cost: €30 (Taxes not included)

Included in the visit:

  • Two-way tram ticket
  • Audio tour visit
  • Entrance to Cité du Vin
  • One glass of wine

Saint-Emilion, the Cultural Landscape

You will be charmed by the magic of Saint-Emilion’s incredible medieval heritage, a true open-air museum. At the heart of the world-famous Bordeaux wine area, the vineyard and eight villages in the Saint-Emilion community are UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a « cultural landscape ». This is a world first!

From the story of monk Emilion, between truth and legend, to the sculpture of the fascinating monolithic church, you will walk through centuries of history in a day! Thanks to our guided visit, you will better understand those cultural treasures and discover the city’s legendary monuments (the tower of the king, the Brunet gate and city walls, the collegiate and its cloister, the Cadène house and gate, the Ursuline convent, etc.), including the mysterious catacombs and the Ermitage.

Departure at 2 PM from the Palais des congrès.

  • Arrival at 3 PM in Saint-Emilion, then walk to the tourist office
  • 3:15-4 PM: underground guided tour
  • 4-5 PM: guided tour of the downtown area
  • Departure at 5 PM and return to the Palais des Congrès

The Arcachon Bassin and its Maritime Wonders

With its unique variety of natural spaces, the Arcachon Bassin will take you to a new setting. During this visit, you will be charmed by the city and surrounding area.

Following a pleasant boat ride, you will discover the Île aux Oiseaux, which takes its name from the various bird species that live there (terns, curlews and other common redshanks).

In front of this island, the famous Cabanes Tchanquées are looming, symbol of the Arcachon Bassin. After a lunch by the water, you will head to the Pilat dune passing by the wonderful villas built during the second empire and Arcachon’s eclectic architecture. Finally, no tour would be complete without climbing the Pilat dune, Europe’s highest with its 105 metres! When you see the incredible panorama on top, you will want to stay there…

 

  • Departure at 8:30 AM from the Palais des Congrès
  • Arrival at 9:30 in Arcachon and walk to the pier for the cruise to Île aux Oiseaux (1 hour)
  • 9:45 – 10:45 AM: cruise on the Bassin
  • 11:15 – 11:45: oyster tasting at an oyster farmer in the Canon village
  • 11:45 AM – 12:30 PM: return cruise
  • 12:40 – 2:15 PM: 3-course lunch with 1/4 l of wine and coffee by the water
  • 2:15 PM: departure for the Pilat dune (bus transfer)
  • 2:30 – 3:45 PM: dune climbing with a guide
  • Departure at 3:45 PM and return to the Palais des Congrès by 5 PM
