Getting to Bordeaux
Lonely Planet’s Best of 2017 featured Bordeaux as the top city in the world, above many worthy adversaries from all continents such as Cape Town, Los Angeles or Lisbon. Destinations are selected based on « their current activities, recent touristic initiatives or preserved setting ». The Cité du Vin, opened in June 2016, the upcoming TGV with service to Paris in 2:05 or simply the city’s tourism boom for the last 10 years or so are all factors which helped Bordeaux reach the top of the list.
Widely acclaimed for its wines, naturally (over 60 appellations and 9,000 castles), its urbanism and classical/contemporary architecture, jewel of the 18th century, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007, its gastronomy, but now also its artistic and cultural effervescence, Bordeaux is the symbol of the French dynamism and way of life among international destinations.
Thanks to its very dynamic international airport, its TGV station being completely transformed, a geographic location at the crossing of four highways, Bordeaux is a very connected city.
